Truett Alumnus Wins Fulbright

Russell Browder, a 2005 graduate of Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary, was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Award to study in Spain during the 2005-2006 academic year.

"Baylor is extremely proud that Russell Browder has received this award," said Dr. Lianne Fridriksson, associate professor of journalism and director of the Fulbright Program at Baylor. "Russell will be a wonderful representative of Baylor and of the United States in Spain. He has a strong desire to make a difference in the world."

For his project, Browder will examine how Spanish companies can extend responsibility to and foster economic development of marginalized social and ethnic groups. He will take classes and conduct research in the International MBA program at Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain, through December 2006.

"Though his Fulbright study will deal with Spanish companies, the implications of his work will be applicable worldwide," Fridriksson said.

A 2000 graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Browder completed his master of divinity degree in theology from Truett Seminary in August 2005. He has been a member of the editorial board of the Truett Journal of Church and Mission and published an article in the journal in Fall 2003. He is a member of several honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board.

During his time at Baylor, Browder participated in Mission Waco's weekly community breakfast and was active in the Local Missions Committee of First Baptist Church in Woodway. He also participated in projects for Habitat for Humanity and worked on a number of humanitarian aid projects, including translating for medical professionals in Peru, Ecuador and Dominican Republic in 2000-2001.

No stranger to living abroad, Browder spent his first 19 years living overseas with his parents, mostly in Venezuela.

Browder and his wife, Monique, have one son, Joshua.
