Steven Curtis Chapman to Perform in Chapel

Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman will perform at Baylor University chapel services at 10 and 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, in Waco Hall.

Chapman, who has collected 49 Dove Awards, more than any other artist in gospel music history, has a chance to pass the 50-trophy mark at the 37th Annual GMA Music Awards on April 5, 2006.

His accomplishments in the Christian music industry make him a highly anticipated guest in chapel services.

"It excites us to have someone with that repertoire," said Ryan Richardson, director of worship and media. "We're so grateful that he's willing to come share his music with Baylor."

Chapman's opportunity to be with family while performing on campus is undoubtedly a perk of his visit. His daughter Emily is a sophomore at Baylor.

According to Chapman's website, Emily was a key figure in the establishment of Shaohannah's Hope, the family's organization which provides financial help to families who desire to adopt.

Emily persuaded Chapman and wife, Mary Beth, to adopt a child from China after reading about the plight of orphans in that country. They have since adopted two more girls from China.

The Chapmans have six children and reside in Nashville, Tenn.
