Baylor Religion Chair To Lecture Feb. 21

Dr. William Brackney, professor and chair of the department of religion at Baylor University, will deliver the department's annual lecture at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in Bennett Auditorium. Brackney will discuss "No Itch to Clog: Is There Space for a Uniquely Baptistic Theology?" The lecture is free and open to the public.
Brackney holds degrees from The University of Maryland, Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he later served as dean, and Temple University.
For several years, he was curator of the Samuel Colgate Collection of the American Baptist Historical Society and developed a Baptist Studies program at the Colgate Divinity School. Prior to his appointment at Baylor, Brackney served as principal of the Divinity School and professor of historical theology at McMaster University in Canada.
A church historian and historical theologian, Brackney is the author of 12 books and numerous articles, including "Christian Voluntarism: Theology and Praxis" and "Historical Dictionary of the Baptists." Currently, he is editing a series in human rights and the world's great religions and a genetic history of Baptist thought.
