Baritone Scott LaGraff, a member of the voice faculty at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, will present a guest recital at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building on the Baylor University campus. He will be assisted by pianist Andrew Hudson who is on the piano faculty at McLennan Community College in Waco.
Their program will open with songs on the Don Quixote theme by two French composers--the four Chansons de Don Quichotte by Jacques Ibert and the three songs in Maurice Ravel's collection, Don Quichotte à Dulcinée. LaGraff also will sing the finale from Manuel de Falla's marionette opera, Master Pedro's Puppet Show.
Following intermission, the artists will present two excerpts from Georg Philipp Telemann's Don Quichotte auf der Hochzeit des Comacho and the "Sérénade" and "Chanson" from Jules Massenet's Don Quichotte.
Closing the program will be Benjamin Britten's setting of "Let the Dreadful Engines of Eternal Will" from Henry Purcell's The Comical History of Don Quixote.
This recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor School of Music at 710-3991.
