Charles Davis To Lead Baylor's Accounting Department

Following a nationwide faculty search for a new accounting department chair, Baylor University has selected one of its own accounting professors, Dr. Charles E. Davis, to head the department.
With 20 faculty members, the accounting and business law department is a major component of the Hankamer School of Business. Baylor's accounting graduates regularly achieve outstanding performances on the CPA examination, both in state and national rankings, and many have risen to the top of international accounting and consulting firms and private industry.
Davis said he looks forward to working with his "dedicated faculty colleagues and talented students" to further enhance Baylor's standing in the accounting profession.
"Thanks to the efforts of this team, our program has enjoyed a solid reputation over many decades," Davis said. "It's an exciting time for our department as we begin to implement initiatives arising out of Baylor 2012, the university's 10-year vision."
A member of the Baylor faculty since 1991, Davis received his undergraduate degree from The College of William & Mary, his master's degree from the University of Richmond and his doctorate from the University of North Carolina. Davis is married to fellow accounting professor, Dr. Elizabeth B. Davis, who served as acting chair of the accounting department during the search.
Davis is associate professor of accounting and Ernst & Young Teaching Fellow in Accounting at Hankamer. He teaches accounting information systems, information systems auditing and managerial accounting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research on behavioral accounting and accounting information systems has been published in numerous practitioner and academic accounting journals. He also has published teaching case studies in The Journal of Information Systems, The Journal of Accounting Case Research and The Journal of Accounting Education.
Davis is active in several professional organizations, including the American Institute of CPAs and the American Accounting Association. Prior to joining the Baylor faculty in 1991, Davis worked as a financial systems analyst on the controller's staff at Reynolds Metals Company and as a management consultant for Coopers and Lybrand, both in Richmond, Va.
