Baylor University President Robert B. Sloan Jr. today announced the appointment of Rick Creel as assistant vice president for operations and facilities. For the past year Creel has served as Baylor's director of operations under assistant vice president Kenneth L. Simons, who last week announced his retirement from the university effective May 31.
In his new position, Creel will oversee new construction and renovation, dining services, facility services, housekeeping, property management, real estate acquisition and disposition, environmental health and safety, architectural and engineering services, and facility utilization and planning.
"Baylor University is fortunate to have attracted someone of Rick Creel's background and ability," said David R. Brooks, vice president for finance and administration. "He will be responsible for a large portion of the university's operation area, and I look forward to his leadership in these areas."
Prior to joining the Baylor staff last January, Creel was president of Flynn Enterprises in Waco. A 1987 graduate of Oral Roberts University with a bachelor's degree in accounting, Creel joined Flynn Enterprises in 1992 as controller and rose through the ranks to chief financial officer, vice president and eventually president in 1996. Prior to his association with Flynn, he served as controller for the Christian Men's Network in Southlake.
Creel is a member of Highland Baptist Church and the Rotary Club of Waco and serves on the advisory council for KWBU TV and FM and on the board of directors of the Heart of Texas chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He and his wife, Melanie, have two children, Madison, 9, and Braden, 5.
"I certainly want to acknowledge Ken Simon's dedicated service to Baylor over the past 28 years and wish him well in all his future endeavors," Creel said. "I am energized by the opportunity to serve Baylor in an expanded capacity, one aligned with the Baylor 2012 Vision. We can all look forward to Baylor's best days ahead."
