February 8, 2002

by Haley L. Wright

Baylor University will hold the 49th annual All University Sing, a student musical production, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16 and Feb. 22-23, in Waco Hall. Although four of the five performances are sold out, tickets are still available for the dress rehearsal Thursday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. Tickets prices range from $10 to $17.
This year's competition will feature 18 student groups, each performing its own original act. A national panel of judges, with equal representation from theater, dance, music and student work backgrounds, will review the acts. The last three performances of each act will be judged on entertainment value, musical quality, creativity, choreography and theme development. The winners will be announced at the end of the last night of performances.
The judges will award the top three acts with first, second and third place awards, and the top eight acts will receive $1,000 to cover expenses needed to prepare for Pigskin Revue. The first place winner will be added to a trophy inscribed with the names of the winners from 1953 to the present. The trophy is on display in the student activities office of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
The People's Choice awards, created for the 1999 performance, again will be included in this year's awards ceremony. The award is based on audience votes on best backdrop, best music selection, best theme development and best costumes. An opportunity to vote for these awards on-line will be set up prior to the first performance.
Entertainment between each act will be provided by The Segues, a student-managed comedy team, and Third Coast, a popular jazz band.
