Communications Week to Feature Lectures, Film Screening, Debate

Baylor University's department of communications studies will hold Communications Week Monday through Thursday, Feb. 13-16. The week-long event, which is free and open to the public, will feature lectures, a film screening, a panel discussion and a debate.
On Monday at 3 p.m. in room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Building, Christopher J. Hansen, assistant professor of communication studies, will screen his feature film "The Care and Feeding of an American Messiah." The feature film, which was shot in high definition, is a mock documentary about a man who believes he is a local messiah. Hansen co-wrote and directed the film.
Two Baylor communication studies faculty will deliver lectures on Tuesday and Wednesday. Dr. Corey Carbonara, professor and one of the leaders in high definition systems, will discuss "Rich Immersive Environments: Next Generation of Games, Fluid Learning, Advertising and the Digital Home." On Wednesday, Blair Browning will deliver a paper on small group communication and team building in sports. Both lectures will begin at 4 p.m. in room 249 at the Castellaw Building.
The Japanese national debate team will visit the campus on Wednesday night for a debate with Baylor students. The public debate, which will begin at 7 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium, will focus on the topic of Japan's involvement in international peacekeeping efforts.
Communications Week will close on Thursday with a 4 p.m. panel discussion on career opportunities for communication students followed by a reception with Baylor communication studies alumni. The panel discussion will be held in room 249 of the Castellaw building with the reception in the Castellaw lounge.
