High School Students To 'Shadow' Library Staff Feb. 7

Approximately 25 juniors and seniors from University High School will shadow librarians and staff who work in Baylor University's libraries during the third annual Job Shadow Day Thursday, Feb. 7.
From 9:45 to 11 a.m., each student will work with a librarian or staff volunteer to obtain an up-close look at the library as a workplace. Staff members will demonstrate and explain effective work methods and discuss with students the skills and academics needed for the profession.
Sponsored by the American Libraries Association, Job Shadow Day is a nationwide effort that encourages partnerships between libraries and young people by introducing them to the librarianship profession. The event is part of the National Job Shadow Day initiative, which introduces middle school and high school students to the world of work by giving them an up-close look at the workplace. In 2001, more than one million students and 75,000 businesses participated in the program.
