Baylor Teams Up With City Of Waco To Feed Homeless

Baylor University is inviting all students to participate in the city-wide collection of $5 gift cards to local fast food restaurants for distribution to the local homeless population. This initiative is directed by the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition, and the goal is to collect at least $500 worth of cards. All donations will be distributed through Project Homeless Connect at the Waco Salvation Army Church.
The drive began on Friday, Jan. 13, and will continue until Tuesday, Jan. 24. Students can drop off their donations in the Student Activities office in the Bill Daniel Student Center.
This is the first time that Baylor has participated in such a drive, and Missy Davis, graduate assistant for community service, is optimistic about the program's success at Baylor.
"I hope that we will continue to work with the Homeless Coalition and the Waco community on this common cause," Davis said.
The drive will culminate with Project Homeless Connect, held on Jan. 27, sponsored by The Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition. The event aims to meet several basic needs of the Waco homeless population, including health, financial, housing, employment, social services and veteran's benefits.
