Kappa Omega Tau (KOT) and the Place2BU are teaming up to host the 40th annual KOT Christmas Tree Lighting/Christmas on Fifth Street at 7 p.m. Thursday in Burleson Quadrangle on the Baylor campus.
This year's traditional event features a concert, live nativity scene, children's carnival, pictures with Santa Claus, free horse-drawn hayrides, a holiday arts fair, caroling, cider and hot chocolate, and vendors with snacks.
"It's such a great time for all of Baylor to get together and celebrate Christ's birth and to just have a good time," said Dillon Meek, Christmas tree lighting chair and KOT member.
The Christmas tree, which was cut down by KOT members at a ranch in Canton, will be lit at 7 p.m.
This year's concert will consist of three bands including Monk & Neagle, Shawn McDonald and Dave Barnes.
The men of KOT are known to put a lot of work into the event, from cutting down, decorating, and safeguarding the Christmas tree, arranging reservations and hotel rooms for the bands, to selling t-shirts for the event.
"They work so hard and care so much about doing this for Baylor," Meek said. "Service is KOT's goal - it's what we stand for."
The concert is free and open to the public. T-shirts for the event are being sold in Collins, Memorial and Penland cafeterias.
