Popular Farce Comes to Baylor Stage Nov. 17-Dec. 4
Baylor University Theatre announces the opening of its production of Noises Off, an award-winning comedy by Michael Frayn, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Jones Theatre of the Hooper-Schaeffer Fine Arts Center. Other performances include shows at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-19 and Dec. 1-3 and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 and Dec. 4.
Heralded by the New York Times as "spectacularly funny," Noises Off catalogues the antics of a slightly inept acting company as they rehearse and perform their own play, the fictional show-within-a-show "Nothing On." Many acclaimed theatre critics have applauded this Broadway production, including New York Post critic Clive Barnes, who once referred to Noises Off as the "funniest farce ever written," and challenged, "If it isn't, tell me what is."
Baylor's production of Noises Off features a cast of nine undergraduate theatre students and is directed by Dr. Stan Denman, chair of the department of theatre arts. Members of the cast include Haley Phillips, Tyler Johnson, Lincoln Thompson, Misty Foster, Mary Laws, Matt Benton, Lacy Lynch, Andrew Worley and Zach Kelty.
"There's nothing like a good old-fashioned farce," Denman said. "It's been a while since we offered Baylor audiences this kind of outlandishly funny, side-splitting comedy. This is escapist entertainment at its best."
