by Richard Veit

Two members of the Baylor University woodwind faculty -- professor of clarinet Dr. Richard Shanley and associate professor of flute Helen Ann Shanley -- will present a recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in Meadows Recital Hall. They will be assisted by senior lecturer in academic studies Doug Claybrook (piano), assistant professor of piano Brian Marks, assistant professor of viola Kathryn Steely, associate professor of double bass Christopher Buddo, and a guest artist, harpist Delaine Fedson.
Dr. Shanley will play the basset horn (an 18th-century alto clarinet) in the opening piece, J. G. Heinrich Backofen's Concertante for Harp and Basset Horn. Ms. Shanley will perform on both flute and piccolo in the next work, Erwin Schulhoff's Concertino. She will be joined by Steely and Buddo. Dr. Shanley and Claybrook will follow with the Hillandale Waltzes of composer/pianist Victor Babin. Ms. Shanley and Fedson will present the Morceau de Concours by French composer Gabriel Fauré.
Concluding the program will be Barn Dance in four movements, "Forward Six and Fall Back Eight," "Divide the Ring," "Varsouvianna" and "Rattlesnake Twist." It is scored for flute, clarinet and piano.
This recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor School of Music at 710-3991.
