Harvest Bonfire Scheduled For Nov. 6

Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will celebrate autumn with a harvest bonfire from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6. Visitors can participate in square dancing and listen to gentle ghost stories and folk tales or take a carriage ride through the lantern-lit grounds. There will be games and craft activities for children and Dick Gimble and Friends will provide music. Foods such as sausage and beans, popcorn balls, hot chocolate, cider and old-fashioned sodas will be sold.
"Going to the Harvest Bonfire reminds me of being a kid on Halloween," said Dinah Siemon, village curator. "Even though it's not late, it's really dark outside. The only light in the village comes from lanterns, oil lamps and the bonfire. The darkness will jolt you back to the past because you can sense what it was like in the late 19th-century in a small Texas town."
The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village is located on the Baylor campus off University Parks Drive behind the alumni center. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children ages 6 to 15. Baylor students, faculty and staff are admitted free as are children 5 and under.
