David W. Rodgers, a 1980 Baylor graduate and director of human resource management for Fidelity Investments in Dallas, received a surprise award from members of the Baylor Association for Human Resource Management (BAHR) in appreciation of his consistent support of Baylor and the association.
Rodgers received a plaque and a gift certificate from student Erik Haven, current president of BAHR. The presentation took place at the first BAHR meeting of the school year, which was attended by nearly 30 students. Also present were BAHR sponsors Dr. Joe A. Cox, professor of management, Dr. P. Blaine McCormick, assistant professor of management, and Dr. David W. Schlueter, professor of communication studies.
A psychology major during his student years at Baylor, Rodgers was the first president in 1979-80 of the association's student chapter (then known as the Baylor Personnel Association). Rodgers has been the association's "lead-off" speaker for the past 15 years, said Cox.
"He's kind of our good luck charm. We always like to start the year with him. The plaque is to thank David for his years of constant support of Baylor students and our association." The inscription on the plaque thanks Rodgers for his "personal commitment" to the students.
"Additionally," said Cox, "he has provided plant tours in Dallas for our students with the different companies for which he worked. He also speaks often with Baylor students about job opportunities in the Dallas area and helps them with their career plans in the human resource management field. He also helps the students with their resumes."
Cox added, "Summarily, David has been an excellent supporter and ally of the Baylor Association for Human Resources and for Baylor University in general."
Rodgers has worked in the human resource management field for several major Dallas-area companies, including Neiman-Marcus and Mary Kay Cosmetics. He joined Fidelity Investments eight years ago. He and his wife, Kay, have four children. Their family is active in the North Highlands Bible Church.
Founded more than 20 years ago, the Baylor Association for Human Resource Management is a student chapter of the international Society for Human Resource Management. Cox, a sponsor since its inception, said the Baylor chapter is one of the nation's largest with more than 50 members.
