Jazz Ensemble To Perform Oct. 23

The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will present its first concert of the school year at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in Jones Concert Hall. This 19-member group performs under the leadership of Alex Parker, lecturer in jazz studies.
The program will open with Ray Wright's arrangement of the Juan Tizol tune, "Perdido." Baylor junior student Peter Emerson, who also is the pianist of the jazz ensemble, will perform his composition "Hungarian Blue."
Richard DeRosa's arrangement of the Jerome Kern/Johnny Mercer hit, "Dearly Beloved," will be followed Don Grolnick's "Nothing Personal" as arranged by Rick Mills.
After intermission, the jazz ensemble will return to the stage with "Tip Toe" by Thad Jones, "Riverscape" by Fred Sturm and the Bill Holman arrangement of "St. Thomas" by Sonny Rollins.
Concluding the program will be another Thad Jones piece, "Greetings and Salutations," featuring a quartet of hornists -- Stephen Aaron, Stephen Bolech, Jonathan Rees, and Megan Stanton -- as well as tubist Daniel Southerland who will join the jazz ensemble.
