Regents Resolution On Recent Tragedy

The Board of Regents of Baylor University Sept. 21 passed the following resolution:

A RESOLUTION OF COMPASSION AND COMMITMENT BY THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF BAYLOR UNIVERSITY IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE TERRORIST ATTACK ON AMERICA

WHEREAS, On the morning of September 11, 2001, the Free World was driven to disbelief by horrendous acts of terrorists who maliciously and without warning inflicted death and serious bodily injury upon thousands of innocent citizens of the United States and many other countries; and

WHEREAS, Americans and members of the worldwide community watched in horror as landmark symbols of a free society crumbled and burned; and

WHEREAS, Communities in New York City, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., have sustained devastation, ruin, serious injuries, and loss of life; and

WHEREAS, Families throughout the United States and literally around the world have lost family members, friends, and other loved ones at the hands of suicidal, cowardly terrorists;

THEREFORE, NOW BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Board of Regents of Baylor University, hereby express our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to all families affected by this national tragedy and extend our prayers that faith in God will sustain each individual touched by this immeasurable loss; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we emphatically condemn the actions of the perpetrators of these heinous crimes against morality and humanity; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we unequivocally express our full and total support of the George W. Bush Administration and Members of the U.S. Congress; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we encourage all Americans and freedom-loving persons around the world to cooperate fully with the efforts of the country's leaders to bring to justice those responsible for these terrible tragedies and to rid the world of terrorism; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we call upon the entire Baylor University community worldwide to join us in prayer and intercession on behalf of all who are suffering as a consequence of these terrible events; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for dissemination to the President of the United States, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate as an expression of our high regard for their leadership during these difficult days.
