Campus Hosts High School Seniors

"Fall Premiere is a great way to introduce Baylor to high school seniors, to give them a good idea of [Baylor] traditions," said Karen Fought, coordinator of telecounseling in the Office of Admission Services.
Close to 2,500 visitors -- students and their parents - visited Baylor as part of the annual event, said Rachelle Davis, assistant director of recruitment and coordinator of Fall Premiere. The students were given the chance to take a first-hand look at what the university has to offer. Special interest seminars were held to answer students and parents questions.
The Office of Admission Services sponsors three premiere events during each academic year, inviting students and their parents to get to know Baylor better and help make their college decisions. Winter Premiere will be held Jan. 30, 1999, and Spring Premiere is set for April 17, 1999.
Admissions counselor Dirrell Jones coordinated a Friday night mixer, designed to "give parents and students an opportunity to talk to faculty from different departments," said Jones.
"It's kind of my first choice. I like Baylor's program for communication disorders," said Crystal Wiggins, a visiting high school student from Port Arthur.
Student organizations set up tables in Marrs McLean Gymnasium for the Student Activities Fair to show prospective students what Baylor life is like outside the classroom. Students took their lunch breaks in Collins Cafe, Penland Food Court and Memorial Food Court.
After lunch, students toured the campus, residence halls, science labs and libraries. They were later entertained by several acts from Baylor's All-University Sing.
When they leave campus and head back home, each student will have to decide if their destiny lies with the Baylor they visited. "We know Baylor is a wonderful university," said Jacki Beane, a parent with an assuring smile.
