Nobel Laureate To Speak In Chapel Oct. 3

Nobel prize-winning economist Robert Fogel will speak to Baylor University students in Chapel at 10 and 11 a.m. on Wed., Oct. 3, in Waco Hall. Fogel is a Nobel laureate and University of Chicago economist, as well as an author.
Fogel earned his bachelor's degree from Cornell University, master's degree from Columbia University and doctorate from Johns Hopkins University. Fogel's book, The Fourth Great Awakening, shows how progressive economic and political movements have stemmed from major Christian revivals.
Fogel won the Nobel Prize in 1993 "for having renewed research in economic history by applying economic theory and quantitative methods in order to explain economic and institutional change." His principle work regarded the role of railroads in the U.S. economic development, the institution of slavery and studies of historical demography.
