Baylor University admission services and several student organizations are working together to host hundreds of prospective students and their parents for Fall Premiere on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The purpose of Baylor premiere weekends is to allow high school students and their parents an opportunity to get as much information as possible about college life at Baylor through informational sessions, campus tours and integration with Baylor faculty, staff and students. The main student organization sponsoring fall premiere is national fraternity Alpha Tau Omega.
The office of admission services hopes to equip the students with valuable information needed to help the high school students make the decision about where to attend college.
"We hope to give as many students as possible the opportunity to have a thorough, hands-on experience at Baylor," said admissions counselor Aaron Dabney, "If we can get them here on campus, we believe that they will fall in love with Baylor."
Saturday morning activities begin with registration and breakfast at 8:15 a.m. at the Ferrell Center where students will attend a "Welcome to Baylor" opening session. They will then have a chance to pick and choose activities in order to get more acquainted with Baylor. Some of these activities include campus and residence hall tours, a student activities fair featuring several student organizations, library tours, a chance to see the Baylor bear mascot, and sessions about admissions, financial aid and study abroad programs. Also offered are parents only and students only sessions as well as a multicultural session.
After the activities of preference, students will attend two academic sessions, held at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., based on their choice of two fields of study. They will be able to listen to presentations by Baylor professors and current students in order to learn what Baylor programs have to offer.
After a closing session in Waco Hall, the premiere will conclude at 4:30 p.m.
