School Of Music Presents Horn Recital With Piano And Harp

Stephen Hager, horn professor at Texas State University in San Marcos, will present a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in Roxy Grove Hall. He will be joined on stage by his wife, harpist Patricia Hager, and by one of his colleagues at TSU, pianist Frances Webb.
The program will open with a work dating from 1983, the Sonata for Horn and Harp, Op. 94, by Dutch composer Jan Koetsier, followed by the Phantasiestücke (or "Fantasy Pieces"), Op. 73, for horn and piano by German composer Robert Schumann, a musical triptych from 1849 that was originally scored for clarinet and piano.
The final set will be Four Bagatelles for horn and piano by English composer Michael Jacques, who studied with Sir Lennox Berkeley at the Royal Academy of Music.
Prior to joining the Texas State faculty, Hager was a member of the U.S. Army Band ("Pershing's Own"), the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, the Mid-Texas Symphony Orchestra and the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra. In addition to his horn performances and teaching, he serves as Minister of Music at Grace Bible Church in San Marcos.
Patricia Hager is a freelance harpist and harp teacher. She has performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Symphony Orchestra and the Children's Choir of San Antonio.
In addition to her piano teaching duties at TSU, Webb serves as music director and organist for St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Marcos.
