Baylor Choirs Sing for Parents Weekend

The Baylor University choirs will present their annual Parents' Day concert at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in Jones Concert Hall, located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building. This year's event -- a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina -- will feature Baylor ShowTime! (led by Leta Horan), Concert Choir (Jeffery Ames), Women's Choir (Michele Henry), Men's Choir (Randall Bradley) and A Cappella Choir (Donald Bailey).
Following some brief words of welcome from Dean William V. May, the university's musical theater troupe, Baylor ShowTime!, will open the program with Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing" and then "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from Harold Arlen's and E.Y. Harburg's score to the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz."
Baylor Concert Choir will perform "Ubi Caritas" from Paul Basler's Songs of Faith and John Rutter's "Clap Your Hands."
The Baylor Women's Choir will sing next, with performances of "Sanctus" by Ron Jeffers and "I Am Not Yours" by David Childs.
"Mouth Music" by Dolores Keane and John Faulkner will be sung by the Baylor Men's Choir, who also will present Vijay Singh's setting of "She Moved Through the Fair."
The Baylor A Cappella Choir will perform "Beati quorum via" by Charles Villiers Stanford and "Epilogue: Whether Men Do Laugh or Weep" by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Closing the concert, in remembrance of the hurricane victims, will be two pieces for massed choirs and the audience--William Croft's "O God, Our Help in Ages Past" and Samuel A. Ward's "America the Beautiful."
