Village Players to Present Original Melodrama July 27
Aspiring young actors in the Village Players Summer Camp at Baylor University will present an original melodrama, Nothing Ever Happens in River Junction, at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. Admission is free.
The performance wraps up a three-week summer camp, during which students entering grades 5-8 developed their acting skills while also learning about costuming and stagecraft. Led by longtime children's theatre director Leslie Collier, the actors put their skills to the test by writing and staging their own late Victorian-style drama.
"Nothing Ever Happens in River Junction is about a mysterious woman, who might -- or might not -- be wanted for murder, who gallops into town on a black horse and stirs up some trouble," said Dinah Siemon, education coordinator at the Historic Village. "The poor, but good-hearted residents of River Junction get very alarmed but as with all melodramas, everything resolves itself happily in the end."
