Forum To Discuss 'Closing The Achievement Gap In Central Texas'

Baylor University's School of Education will host a forum for Central Texas education and community leaders on "Success for All Children: Closing the Achievement Gap in Central Texas" from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, in room 107 of Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
The forum for discussion and action will feature a keynote address by Dr. Miriam Leiva, distinguished emeritus professor of mathematics at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. Leiva also serves as president of TODOS: Mathematics For ALL, an organization whose mission is to advocate for an equitable and high quality mathematics education for all students, in particular Latino/Hispanic students, by advancing the professional growth and equity awareness of educators.
The forum also will feature Dr. Robert C. Cloud, professor and chair of the department of educational administration at Baylor, and Dr. Como Molina, program specialist with the Southwest Educational Development Laboratory.
In addition to the School of Education, the forum is sponsored by the department of curriculum and instruction, Southwest Educational Development Laboratory and Houghton Mifflin Publishing Co.
Parking for forum participants will be available either in the adjacent Dutton Avenue Parking Facility on decks 2 and 3 or in the lot across the street from Truett Seminary.
