Escape To A Victorian Summer Day June 2

May 30, 2001

Visitors can enjoy a day filled with Victorian summer activities during Summer Escape, at Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Summer Escape will feature a variety of late 19th-century games, including rolling hoops, shooting marbles, walking on stilts and playing handkerchief games. Visitors also can make and take home a handkerchief parachute and a thaumatrope, a toy that creates optical illusions and a popular form of entertainment before the advent of radio or television. Additionally, children can register for the Waco-McLennan County Library's summer reading program, and drawings for free books will be held throughout the day.
Admission to Summer Escape is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children ages 5 to 15. Baylor students, faculty, staff and children under age 5 are admitted at no charge. The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village is located on University Parks Drive behind the Baylor Alumni Center.
