Baylor Professor Xin Wang Appointed Faculty Member In Residence

Dr. Xin Wang, assistant professor in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and department of modern foreign languages, has been appointed to serve as a faculty member in residence at the Honors College Living-Learning Center in Memorial and Alexander residence halls this fall.

Wang joins Dr. Julie Sweet, assistant professor of history, and her husband, Dr. Thomas Riley, who were recently appointed as faculty members in residence at the North Village Residential Community.

Wang was born and raised in Xi'an, an ancient capital of China where he studied English language and literature at the Shaanxi Business and Economics Institute. After graduating, Wang worked for the education sector of the Chinese government as an interpreter and program coordinator. He also worked as a client training consultant in leadership and management for PricewaterhouseCoopers in China. Wang later relocated to the United States and completed both his master's and doctoral degrees at Baylor. He was appointed to the Baylor faculty in 2002.

"I am enormously grateful that students will have the opportunity to live and learn in community with scholars like Sweet, Riley and Wang," said Dr. Frank Shushok, dean for student learning and engagement. "The Faculty in Residence Program continues to assist us in the transformation of 'dorms' to residential learning communities."

Dr. Thomas Hibbs, dean of the Honors College and Distinguished Professor of Ethics and Culture, said Wang's presence will greatly enhance the integration of the academic, the spiritual and the social lives of students in the Honors College LLC.

"We are delighted that Xin has decided to take up residence in the LLC," Hibbs said. "Students will benefit immensely from his enthusiasm, his good will and the breadth of his interests, which range from history and religion to Asian thought, culture and film."

The Honors College LLC was established in 2004 as a place for highly motivated students enrolled in any of the Honors College units: the Honors Program, University Scholars, Great Texts and the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core. More than 300 Honors College students enjoy on-site classrooms, quiet and group-study areas and opportunities for conversation with faculty members. The mission of the HC-LLC is to integrate serious intellectual pursuits into the fabric of student life and to foster a caring community that prizes inquiry, dialogue and conscientious engagement.
