Registration Under Way For Baylor Math And Reading Camps
Baylor University's School of Education in partnership with the Center for Community Learning and Enrichment will hold two summer reading and math programs for Central Texas students entering first through fourth grades.
The 2001 Summer Reading Clinic will be held June 5-29 at Baylor and is designed to help elementary school children get a head start on reading, brush up on reading and comprehension skills and develop a love for reading. Led by a team of Baylor's expert reading professors, Baylor teacher candidates with a specialization in reading will work one-on-one with children and hold a conference with parents on the last day of the clinic to report activities and make recommendations. Students will be assigned to one of two time slots: 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. or 9:30 to 10:20 a.m. The deadline to register is Friday, May 4. The cost of the summer reading clinic is $250.
The 2001 Summer Math Camp will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. July 16-27 on the Baylor campus. Led by Baylor professors in math curriculum and instruction, Baylor teacher candidates studying to become elementary school teachers will work one-on-one with the children, as they spend mid-summer heating up some math skills. Designed as a math enrichment program, children will demonstrate their skills to parents during a Math Show Off Day on the last day of camp. The deadline to register is Friday, May 4. The cost of the summer math camp is $125.
