Baylor Habitat Project -- Week 2 Update

With the roof in place and windows installed, 25 Baylor University faculty, staff and students worked Saturday on Baylor's Habitat for Humanity house to install siding and exterior doors and prepare the interior for drywall.
Jim Hare, computer technician with Baylor ITS, said that working on the future home of Eddie and Anja Gayle proved to be enjoyable and productive.
"The atmosphere on Saturday was very light-hearted; there were plenty of laughs and stories to share, but we were serious about the task at hand," Hare said. "All the workers felt a sense of accomplishment after the work was done."
Crew members were treated to a lunch prepared by Anja Gayle, who is expecting the couple's second child in September. She and Eddie also worked most of the day on the house as part of their "sweat equity" agreement, Hare said.
Dr. Jay Losey, chair of the faculty senate, encouraged faculty and staff to continue making financial contributions toward Baylor's Habitat house.
Faculty and staff have contributed nearly half of their $16,000 pledge toward the effort. The $32,000 project of Baylor's Habitat for Humanity chapter is being funded by contributions from students, faculty and staff. Students have contributed their share.
"I wanted to thank those who have already contributed and encourage those of who haven't to consider making a contribution," Dr. Losey said.
Located at 1008 Church Ave. in Waco, the Gayles' home will be Waco's 61st Habitat house.
"The house is coming along well, and we're very close to schedule after raising the walls a week later than planned," Hare said.
Organizers are planning for a completion and dedication date of April 28.
