Preservation Exhibit Opens At Moody Library

"Preservation in the New Millennium," an exhibit that focuses on methods used to preserve library materials, is open in the foyer of Baylor University's Moody Memorial Library. The exhibit will run through May.
"This exhibit shows how some of our heritage is lost if we don't take care of written information," said Kathy Sparkman, assistant professor and preservation librarian.
Designed by the library system's preservation department, the exhibit includes displays on libraries and archives that were destroyed during the 20th century, disaster recovery, mutilation of library materials and the use of the KwikPress, a new technique to emboss lettering on the spines of books.
Additionally, two demonstrations on the preservation process will be held. On April 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. preservation specialist Frank Jasek will demonstrate paper mending, and from 10 to 11 a.m. and from 2 to 3 p.m. April 18, he will show how to make books.
