Chamber Singers To Perform Spring Concerts At Baylor

The Baylor University Chamber Singers will present its annual spring concerts at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 8, and at 8 p.m. Monday, April 9. The performances will take place in the McLean Foyer of Meditation in Armstrong Browning Library.
The 16-voice choral ensemble is directed by Dr. Donald Bailey, the Mary Gibbs Jones Professor of Music and director of choral activities. Dr. Robert H. Young, who founded the Baylor Chamber Singers in 1962, will direct two of his own pieces, "The Sands of Dee" and "At Her Fair Hands."
The program will open with Giovanni Maria Nanino's "Hodie Christus natus est" and "If Ye Love Me" by English composer, Thomas Tallis.
Maurice Duruflé's Four Motets on Gregorian Themes will be followed by "Prayer to Jesus" by George Oldroyd.
Harpist Joanna Elliott will provide an instrumental interlude in the form of one movement from George Frideric Handel's popular Harp Concerto in B-flat major, Op. 4, No. 6.
The program will conclude with Robert Schumann's Zigeunerleben and two arrangements by Alice Parker, "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye" and "My Gentle Harp," with the assistance of Elliott.
Parker also will serve as Baylor's Northcutt Lecturer on Thursday, April 26.
