Guest Recital For Violin And Piano Set For March 25

Guest artists Richard Luby and Claudia Corona will perform a recital of 20th-century Parisian violin sonatas at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, in Roxy Grove Hall. The program is titled "The French Violin/Piano Sonata: Picasso to Proust," and will include works by Poulenc, Ravel and Fauré.
Luby is professor of violin at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career extends from Baroque and classical music on historical instruments through the newest repertoire for modern violin. He has appeared as soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa (Mexico), the National Radio Orchestra of Poland, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Corona is currently serving as concert soloist in Europe and in Mexico. She also performs as a member of the Silvestre Revueltas Piano Trio, based in Mexico City. In 1997, Corona received the national prize for soloist at the Autonomous National University of Mexico. She was also a prize-winner in the 1991 Mozart Year Piano Competition, the 1992 Xalapa National Piano Competition and the 1997 California Young Artists Competition of San Diego.
