The Texas Saxophone Quartet To Perform At Baylor March 16

The prize-winning Texas Saxophone Quartet (TSQ) will present a guest concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building on the Baylor University campus. The TSQ's appearance is in conjunction with the North American Saxophone Alliance's Region IV conference.
Members of the group are Don Fabian (soprano saxophone), David Lovrien (alto saxophone), Mark Alewine (tenor saxophone) and Baylor graduate John Sweeden (baritone saxophone).
The program will open with the "Badinerie" movement from Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite in B minor, in an arrangement by Fabian.
Two works from the 1980s will follow, Stephen Parisi's Introduction and Capriccio and Elliot Del Borgo's Quartet for Saxophones. The latter was commissioned for the TSQ.
Also on the program will be one of opera-composer Giacomo Puccini's instrumental works, Crisantemi, and Euday L. Bowman's most famous ragtime piece, Twelfth Street Rag, from 1914.
The Texas Saxophone Quartet was established in 1983 to perform chamber music at the highest level while introducing new audiences to the classical side of the saxophone. In 1987, the quartet became the first saxophone ensemble to win first prize in the prestigious Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, Ind. The TSQ has a diverse repertoire, ranging from baroque transcriptions and classical literature to jazz, ragtime and popular favorites.
