Karol Hardin To Speak On Papua New Guinea March 13

March 13, 2001

Dr. Karol Hardin, assistant professor of Spanish at Baylor University, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in room 116 of Draper Academic Building as part of the Council for International Education's "The Global Issues Lecture Series."
Her speech, titled "Papua New Guinea: Growing Up in Paradise," will reflect on her personal experiences from birth through college in New Guinea. Hardin lived in New Guinea while her parents studied the language and worked as Bible translators. She will discuss the history of New Guinea, the state of the union while she lived there, and the current growing pains and changes of the country. Her aim is to provide a basic knowledge of where the country is located as well as an appreciation for the linguistic and culture diversity of New Guinea.
A special foreign film series also is being held in conjunction with the lecture series. The next film to be shown is "Diabolique," at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center. The film and lecture are free and open to the public.
