Baylor Rates High In U.S. News College Survey

Business and engineering programs at Baylor University get high marks in the latest listing of America's Best Colleges, compiled by U.S. News & World Report.
The undergraduate entrepreneurship program at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business is ranked fourth in the nation in the magazine's survey, which was announced today. Overall, Hankamer's undergraduate business programs are rated 57th of the accredited programs assessed. The magazine says there are 338 accredited schools nationwide that offer undergraduate degrees in business.
Baylor's School of Engineering and Computer Science is ranked 12th nationally among best undergraduate engineering departments without Ph.D programs in the electrical-electronic-communications fields. In the general category of best undergraduate engineering programs without doctoral programs, Baylor is placed 21st nationally among the 137 accredited schools.
The magazine's overall 2001 Best College Rankings includes a listing of 228 top national universities. Baylor is placed among the second tier of schools ranked 52nd to 116th. Other second tier Texas schools include Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University and Texas Christian University.
U.S. News says it uses seven "indicators" to arrive at the best college rankings--academic reputation, student retention, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance.
Several Baylor programs also figured prominently in the Best Graduate Schools for 2001 rankings published earlier this year by U.S. News & World Report. Baylor's Law School, Louise Herrington School of Nursing, and its speech pathology, physical therapy, health services administration and entrepreneurship programs were all included in the listing.
