Rasma Lazda To Speak On German Unification Oct. 5

September 29, 2000

Dr. Rasma Lazda, assistant professor of German at Baylor University, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Cowden Room on the third floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center, as part of the Council for International Education's Current Issues Lecture Series.
Lazda's speech,"The Wall in the Head: German Unification 10 Years After," will begin with background information on German reunification and move to the current situation. Using interviews she collected last summer in the areas that were formerly East and West Germany, Lazda also will discuss the different views regarding reunification and the new Germany.
"As you might know, the actual wall is gone, but the wall in the head between East and West Germany is growing," said Lazda, regarding Germany's current political situation.
A special foreign film series also is being held in conjunction with the lecture series. The next film to be shown is "Il Postino" at 4 p.m. Oct. 11 in Room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center. The film and lecture are free and open to the public.
