Clarinetist Jon Manasse To Perform As Lyceum Series Guest

Jon Manasse, principal clarinetist of the New York Chamber Symphony Orchestra and the American Ballet Theater Orchestra, will present a recital and two master classes during his Lyceum Series residency on Feb. 23-24. In addition to his orchestral positions, Manasse serves as associate professor of clarinet at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
The recital, which includes music by Francis Poulenc, Johannes Brahms and Carl Maria von Weber, will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, in Meadows Recital Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. It will open with Poulenc's Sonata for Clarinet and Piano. Jane Abbott-Kirk, associate professor of piano, will accompany. The Sonata in F minor, Op. 120, No. 1, with accompaniment by Brian Marks, assistant professor of piano, will follow. Concluding the recital will be Weber's Grand Duo Concertante, Op. 48. Jimmy Chiang, a recent Baylor graduate, will be the pianist in the Weber.
Manasse's two master classes will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Meadows Recital Hall and at 9 a.m. Saturday in Recital Hall II.
A graduate of The Juilliard School of Music, Manasse has served as guest principal clarinetist of the New York Pops Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Orpheus chamber Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded the complete Clarinet Concertos of Weber and Samuel Sanders' complete music for clarinet and piano with Lukas Foss and the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra.
