Student Arena Tickets Free For Forbes Lecture
In order to encourage more student participation in the upcoming President's Forum Lecture featuring Steve Forbes, Baylor University has decided to make tickets in the upper and lower arena in the Ferrell Center free for Baylor students.
Forbes will speak on "America's Promise for Hope, Growth and Opportunity" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, in the Ferrell Center.
Any student who has purchased a ticket may return that to the ticket office in the Bill Daniel Student Center for a refund. Floor seat tickets for students will remain at $20. Tickets are required for the lecture.
Baylor faculty and staff can purchase floor seats for $20, lower arena seats for $10 and upper arena seats for $5. Tickets for the general public are priced at $25 for floor seats, $15 for the lower arena and $10 for the upper arena.
"This is a rare opportunity for students to hear in person an individual with a unique perspective on America's political process and economic system," said Larry Brumley, associate vice president for communications. "Every student should avail themselves of the opportunity to hear Steve Forbes. His insights will resonate well with Baylor's student body."
A former Republican presidential candidate and editor-in-chief of Forbes business magazine, Steve Forbes received his bachelor's degree in history from Princeton University in 1970. At Princeton, he was the founding editor of Business Today, which became the country's largest magazine published by students for students, with a circulation of 200,000. The magazine continues to be published by Princeton undergraduates.
As president and CEO of Forbes Inc. since 1990, he has launched several publications in addition to Forbes. These include the lifestyle supplement Forbes FYI; the technology supplement Forbes ASAP; a Japanese-language edition of Forbes; the Gilder Technology Report; Forbes Global Business & Finance, the magazine's new international edition that debuted in March 1998; Forbes Digital Tool, an online business magazine; and American Legacy, a publication that focuses on the people shaping African-American history and culture.
The widely esteemed economic prognosticator also is a four-time winner of the prestigious Crystal Owl award as the financial journalist whose economic forecasts for the coming year proved to be most accurate.
Before withdrawing from the presidential race in February, Forbes' campaign was credited by several national media publications, including The Wall Street Journal, for its influence on the national debate. Key to Forbes' platform was a flat tax, a new Social Security system of personal retirement accounts for young people, medical savings accounts and parental control of education.
