Exhibits Featuring Faculty And Student Art Work Open April 4

Baylor University's Martin Museum of Art and University Art Gallery will feature exhibits that showcase works created by members of the art faculty and students. The two exhibitions will open with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on campus.
The Martin Museum will feature pieces by 12 studio artists, who work in a variety of media, from sculpture to ceramics to graphic design.
"This show allows the community and our students to see what our faculty are doing," said Dr. Heidi Hornik-Parsons, assistant professor and director of the Martin Museum. "Our faculty enjoy displaying their work and also look forward to seeing what their peers are creating."
The faculty art exhibition will run through May 2.
Student works will take center stage at the University Art Gallery. All the pieces in the exhibit were completed during the 1999-2000 academic year. Dick Davison, professor of architectural drawing at Texas A&M University, served as juror for the show.
"We try to keep the contents of the exhibit secret until the opening reception. In fact, the students who entered art work will not learn if their pieces were selected for the exhibition until then," said Denny Pickett, director of the University Art Gallery and visiting assistant professor of art at Baylor.
The Student Exhibit will run through April 29.
The Martin Museum of Art and the University Art Gallery are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and during matinee and evening performances of Baylor Theater. There is no admission charge.
