Mayo's Chief Of Infectious Disease To Speak At Honors Week April 5

The Chief of the Mayo Clinic Infectious Disease division will lecture at Baylor University's annual honors week convocation Wednesday, April 5. Dr. Walter Wilson, a Baylor alumnus, will speak at 3 p.m. in the Foyer of Meditation in the Armstrong Browning Library.
"Walter Wilson is certainly one of the leading physicians in the world," said Dr. Wallace Daniel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. "He has distinguished himself by being the personal caretaker for many leading world figures, and he is widely published. His perspective on higher education and medical education will offer us a first-hand and first-rate experience."
Wilson, who was born in Del Rio, received his bachelor's degree from Baylor and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He was named chair of the division of infectious disease at the Mayo Clinic in 1990.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Federation of Clinical Research, American College of Chest Physicians, and Infectious Diseases Society of America and served on the Board of Governors of the Midwestern Division of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, and on the editorial board of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology.
Wilson has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and also has written articles for such publications as the Journal of the American Medical Association, Journal of Infectious Disease, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, and Circulation, among others.
The eighth annual J. Harry and Anna Jeanes Honors Week will celebrate the academic achievements of Baylor's honor students. The week's core activities will begin April 4 with students' presentations of their honors thesis. The presentations will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Cowden Room at the Bill Daniel Student Center and 4:15 to 5 p.m. in the Claypool Room, also in the student center. Additional presentations will run from 3 to 4 p.m. April 6 in the Houston Room and 4:15 to 5 p.m. in the Claypool Room.
