Baylor Brass Faculty In Concert On Feb. 27

The Baylor Brass Quintet will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, in Roxy Grove Hall on the Baylor University campus.
This chamber ensemble is comprised of four Baylor faculty members -- Barry Hopper, associate professor of trumpet; Margaret Robinson, assistant professor of horn; Nathaniel Dickey, lecturer in trombone; and Michael Fischer, lecturer in low brass (tuba and euphonium) -- as well as trumpeter Oscar García, a sophomore from San Ramón, Costa Rica, who studies with Hopper. They will be joined by John Cozza, assistant professor of piano, and 14 brass students.
The program, "A Festival of Brass," will open with six dances from Tielman Susato's 16th-century collection, The Danserye. That will be followed by Morely Calvert's Dance Impressions, Gabriel Fauré's familiar Pavane, an arrangement by Quinto Maganini of the American folksong "Shenandoah," and André Previn's Outing for Brass.
After intermission, the concert will resume with Robert Nagel's five-movement Suite for Brass and Piano, an arrangement by Tom Smee of Johannes Brahms's "Let Nothing Ever Grieve Thee," John Iverson's brass setting of the traditional "Londonderry Air" (featuring trombone soloist Nathaniel Dickey), and then Giovanni Gabrieli's "In Ecclesiis."
