Baylor Music Faculty Recital Set for Oct. 19

Four members of the Baylor University music faculty will combine their talents on Tuesday, Oct. 19, in a concert of music for percussion, strings and piano. This program, which begins at 8 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, will feature music by American composer Lou Harrison and Hungarian composer Béla Bartók.
The concert is titled "An Evening of Percussion--Strings and Pianos Attached."
Bruce Berg, associate professor of violin, will be the soloist in Harrison's Concerto for Violin with Percussion Orchestra. Larry Vanlandingham, professor of percussion instruments and director of instrumental studies, will be the principal player in the percussion orchestra, alongside five of his students. The concert will be conducted by Michael Haithcock, professor of conducting and director of bands.
Following intermission, the program will resume with a performance of Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, a work that was premiered in 1938. The keyboard artists will be Roger Keyes, professor of piano, and William Brown, dean of fine arts and professor of piano at Southwestern Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo.
