Baylor University's two Jazz Ensembles will present a joint concert at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, in Jesse H. Jones Theatre, which is located within the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
Both ensembles perform under the direction of Benjamin Irom, lecturer in jazz studies. Also taking part in the concert will be the Eli González Quartet.
The program will open with Jazz Ensemble II performing five selections: the Paul Jennings arrangement of Chick Corea's "Spain," Sammy Nestico's "Good News" and "Nicole," Matt Harris's "Otra Vez" and David Caffey's "A Minor Excursion."
The Eli González Quartet--tenor saxophone, piano, bass, and drums--will play a pair of pieces. Steve Khan's "Brown Zone" will be followed by "Groovin' High" by Dizzy Gillespie.
After intermission, the program will resume with Jazz Ensemble I playing six works. John Clayton's "I Be Serious 'Bout Dem Blues" will be succeeded by the Jerry Johnson arrangement of Chick Corea's "La Fiesta" and Duke Ellington's "Harlem Air Shaft." And finally, Bob Washut's arrangement of "Guararé" by Ray Barreto, "Gentle Piece" by Kenny Wheeler and "Time Check" by Don Menza.
