Baylor Accounting Grads Rank 6th Nationally on CPA Exam

Accounting graduates of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business are ranked sixth nationally in performance on the latest CPA examination.
Dr. Danny P. Hollingsworth, professor and chair of accounting, said the results of the November 1998 exam show Baylor ranked sixth in the nation among colleges and universities with candidates holding advanced degrees. To be eligible for the ranking, an institution must have had at least 10 first-time candidates with advanced degrees. A total of 140 institutions had candidates taking the exam.
Statistics released by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy show that 45.5 percent of Baylor's first-time candidates in this category passed all four parts of the exam. This compares to a national average pass rate of 16.2 percent for all candidates, both with and without advanced degrees, in all categories of the exam.
A total of 63.6 percent of Baylor candidates with advanced degrees passed the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section, giving Baylor the fifth highest ranking in the country on that section of the exam.
"It is a pleasure to see Baylor accounting graduates excel. Given the large number of outstanding accounting programs in the nation, I am especially pleased that our graduates ranked sixth in the nation on passing the CPA exam," said Hollingsworth, who serves as the Arthur Andersen & Co. Alumni Professor of Accounting. "I think this ranking demonstrates the strength of our accounting program, the abilities of our students, and the dedication of our accounting faculty to provide an excellent accounting education to our students."
Noting that career opportunities in the accounting profession remain strong, Hollingsworth added, "Many Baylor accounting graduates have risen to the top ranks of the international accounting and consulting firms and private industry."
