July 21, 1999

WACO, Texas -- The Woman's Missionary Union of Texas (WMU) will hold the Texas Leadership Conference July 22-24 at Baylor University.
Mission leaders from all over the state will attend this church leadership conference to receive leadership training, inspiration and encouragement. The WMU is expecting 1300-1500 participants this year. These leaders will participate in training for various age-level organizations such as children, pre-school, youth and adults. The sessions will be offered in several different languages such as English, Korean, Spanish and Vietnamese. They will be led by leaders from throughout Texas.
There will be several special interest conferences discussing issues such as restorative justice ministries and violence. Dr. Diana Garland, professor of social work, will lead a conference on how leaders can help combat violence. Missionaries will lead small groups and discuss their ministries. Each day, general sessions will be held featuring various speakers and testimonies.
In addition to the conferences, the WMU also will focus on their promotion of a Texas Missions Offering, seeking to raise $5.5 million for Texas Baptist Missions.
