Debate Professor to Be Awarded National Federation of State High School Associations Citation July 4

Dr. Karla Leeper, assistant professor of communication studies at Baylor University, will be honored Sunday, July 4, by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) at their summer meeting in Washington, D.C., when she is awarded the Citation, one of the highest awards presented by the organization.
Leeper is the Glenn R. Capp Chair of Forensics and director of the award-winning Baylor Debate Program. She also is director of Baylor's Summer Debate Workshops for high school students. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and earned her master's degree and doctorate from the University of Kansas. She began teaching at Baylor in 1992.
In extending his congratulations to Leeper, NFHS executive director Robert F. Kanaby wrote, "One of the greatest joys of this position is the opportunity to participate in the process of rewarding people who make great contributions to young people. With that thought in mind, may I extend our congratulations to you for your selection as a 1999 recipient of the NFHS's prestigious Citation."
The Citation is given annually to individuals who have made exemplary and significant contributions of long-standing to high school sports and activities.
