Baylor Hosts Advanced Placement Summer Institute

Baylor University will host the Baylor Advanced Placement Summer Institute for high school teachers June 20-25.
Co-sponsored by Baylor and the College Board, the institute is designed for high school teachers who are teaching advanced placement courses, which high school students may take to earn college credit. The institute helps high school AP teachers understand the expectations of university students in these courses so they can better prepare their high school students through the AP courses. This program is especially beneficial to teachers who are new to the AP program. Teachers will leave the institute with practical materials they can use in the classroom.
The week is broken up into various workshops, including biology, calculus, English literature and composition, United States government and United States history. These workshops are taught by high school teachers who are trained by the college board. Several Baylor professors also will make special content presentations, including Dr. John Blakeman, assistant professor of political science; Dr. Kevin Gardner, assistant professor of English; Dr. Ray Cannon, professor of mathematics; and Dr. Dan Wivagg, professor of biology.
The tuition for the institute is $340 for commuters and overnight participants. There will be an additional $210 to cover meals and lodging for overnight participants.
