Pioneer Heritage Days Set for April 24-25

Baylor University's Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village will host its annual Pioneer Heritage Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Now in its 21st year, the event recreates life in a typical Texas river village in the late 1800s and will focus on turn-of-the-century school activities.
The event is designed to promote interest in Texas history, said Annie Steward, a volunteer at the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village.
"We have several demonstrators coming who will portray those who lived in Texas during the pioneer days," Steward said. "All the village's structures will be open, and we will have blacksmiths and weavers demonstrating their skills, as well as old-fashioned crafts and games, such as a spelling bee."
Some of the highlighted activities include performances by the Fort Hood Dixieland Band at 1 p.m. Saturday and fiddler Joe Churchill from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Refreshments also will be available.
General admission to Pioneer Heritage Days is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1 for children over age five. There will be a small fee for some craft activities.
