Dr. Carvalho to Speak on Brazil Nov. 19

Dr. Lizabeth Carvalho, lecturer in modern foreign languages, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Cowden Room located on the third floor of the Student Union Building as part of the Council For International Education lecture series, "All the News That's Fit to Discuss!"
Her speech is titled "Brazil: The Alice in Wonderland in South America." The lecture will be Carvalho's personal and professional reflections of Brazil. Carvalho, a Brazilian, will speak from experience on the topic.
Brazil is a third world country and ranked as the eighth largest industrialized nation. The speech will highlight the challenges Brazil faces in the 21st century.
Some of those challenges deal with the country having the largest population in Latin America, external and internal debt and poverty.
A special foreign film series is also being held in conjunction with the lecture series. The next film to be shown is "Men With Guns" at 6 p.m. Thursday in Bennett Auditorium. The film and lecture are free and open to the public.
