Speaker to Kick Off Aids Awareness Week Nov. 16-20

November 13, 1998

For 10 years, Johnathan Hunter lived a homosexual lifestyle. Today, he says he has left that behind and wants to tell others how Christianity changed him. Hunter, who is the founder of Embracing Life (formerly AIDS Resource Ministry), will kick off AIDS Awareness Week at Baylor when he speaks at Chapel-Forum at 10 and 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, in Waco Hall.
Sponsored by Baylor Health and Wellness, AIDS Awareness Week will offer various opportunities for people to learn more about the disease.
Hunter will speak at a brown bag lunch for faculty, staff and students Monday at noon in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Other events planned include the display of portions of the AIDS Quilt. This national artwork has been on display at the White House and serves as a memorial to those who have died from complications of AIDS. The quilt portions will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in the student center. Also, an AIDS Christmas tree will be on display during the week in the student center, giving people the opportunity to write their feelings about AIDS on an ornament and place it on the tree.
