Service Project 2005 To Support Waco Advocacy Center
Baylor University's Staff Council has organized Service Project 2005 to benefit the Waco Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children. All Baylor faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate. The deadline to contribute has been extended to April 22.
Staff Council has asked the Baylor family to donate items such as journals, art supplies, toiletries, socks and underwear for men and women, books, coloring books, toys and stuffed animals. They will also be collecting motivational posters to be used to decorate offices in the center and stickers and candy to give children when they leave.
Items can be deposited around campus in designated boxes decorated with green and gold handprints and the Advocacy Center logo. The donation boxes can be found at various locations including Pat Neff Hall, Baylor Sciences Building, Bill Daniel Student Center, Floyd Casey Stadium, Hankamer School of Business, Baylor Law School and Robinson Tower.
The event is co-chaired by Staff Council representatives Dana Lee Haines and Rebecca White. Haines said, "Members of the Staff Council are thrilled to coordinate this project to provide much needed resources for the Advocacy Center. It is a great chance to help an organization in Waco since past projects have been for national causes."
Past service projects have included support for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and Habitat for Humanity. This is the first attempt by Staff Council to reach out to the local community.
Haines added, "This is a marvelous display of unity for the entire campus. We are sharing with them the generous nature of Baylor faculty, staff and students who have contributed teddy bears, crayons, coloring books and other items for this initiative."
